Policy Paper: "Towards a National Policy to Curb the Chaos of Price Inflation in the Gaza Strip"

Introduction

The world today is experiencing a significant rise in prices, caused by the global crisis resulting from the Russia-Ukraine war that began on (24 February 2022), which led to global increases in commodity prices whose effects rained down on human life everywhere, particularly on Palestinians living under occupation, given that Palestine depends on Russia and Ukraine for 95% of its imported wheat and flour.

This crisis exacerbated the humanitarian conditions in Palestine, as people became unable to consistently secure their daily sustenance in order to provide their families with the most basic means of life, and were unable to secure a minimum decent standard of living or ensure food security. The repercussions of this problem were further intensified by the fact that Palestine is under occupation, which employs policies destructive to the Palestinian economy, including closure and the siege, and the reality of the logistical trade system governing the crossings, which allows it to control the opening and closing of the Strip's crossings and to apply particular policies.
